You probably have a buggy CMD PCI0640 EIDE chip, or maybe an RZ1000 EIDE chip.

Both of these are known to have serious problems, which are addressed in the
latest drivers for OS/2, Windoze, NT, and Linux.

The PCI chip installed in my system is the SiS85C496/497. The motherboard is a
486SP whit an Award 4.50G bios (2A4IBPA1) dated 03/08/95. More suggestions?
Are the latest kernel version more compatible with PCI/LB machines?

1. GSI Eide Cards: PCI, EIDE; Any info please?

Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy a GOOD eide card. According to the net
opinion that I was able to filter out, the GSI is a "pretty good" card.
However, I would like to have more info. Does anybody own the PCI version
of their eide controller. Does it use the dreaded CMD64xx chipset? I
would also appreciate it if somebody could fwd me their tech-support/
info-fax-back #(if such a facility exists). Thanks very much for your
help. Also indispensable would be pointers to their web/ftp site (if that
exists). Thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
Ali.
