XFree86 and Compaq QVision Cards

|Does anybody have information about XFree386 support for Compaq QVision
|2000 / Matrox Ultima?

|Seems to be announced for a long time.

I am also looking for information on X servers for Compaq QVision
cards.  I have a Compaq QVision 1280/P card I would like to use in a
Linux box.  It has a Cirrus Logic CL-PX2085-135HC-A chip and is a PCI
card.

Specifically, about the QVision 1280/P card:
[1] Is it (or will it be) supported under XFree86?

[2] Is it supported under Accelerated-X (X-Inside's product is
distributed with Caldera which I am interested in)?

[3] Is it supported with Metro-X (the one distributed with Red Hat
3.03)?

[4] Is the performance of the card worth my efforts?

TIA

XFree86 and Compaq QVision Cards

: Specifically, about the QVision 1280/P card:
: [1] Is it (or will it be) supported under XFree86?

Unfortunately, no.  The Compaq QVision 1024, 1280/E, 1280/P, 2000, and
2000+ are all not supported under XFree86.  There was a movement a while
back to try to develop support for these cards, but to the extent of my
knowledge, this work never came to fruition.  If I'm wrong, please let me
know!

: : [2] Is it supported under Accelerated-X (X-Inside's
product is : distributed with Caldera which I am interested in)?

Yes, X-Inside supports all of the above mentioned cards.  I have seen
this product used at my workplace often, and it provides extremely easy
configuration (menu-guided, no messing with modelines, etc -- what a
headache!) for both the video card and monitor.

: [3] Is it supported with Metro-X (the one distributed with Red Hat
: 3.03)?

Sorry, I wouldn't know;  someone more knowledgable than I will hopfully
answer this one!

: [4] Is the performance of the card worth my efforts?

In my opinion, yes.  The 1280/P is an excellent card, and Thomas Roell
(the X-Inside driver developer) did an excellent job with his driver support.
