when I boot off of a 8.2 install cd
the install gets stuck on
hdd: 66055248 sectors (33820 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=4111/255/63, (U)DMA
Partition Check:
 hdd:
8.2 install does not go past this stage

when I boot off a 8.1 installation cd it goes pass this stage with out
any problems it recognizes my hard drive and my partitions correctly
but when I put in 8.2 cd for a upgrade or a clean install I keep getting the
same error .
I tried to use a network boot disk but I got the same error

this is a Maxtor 4d040HZ 40gig 5400rpm hard drive
how can I get pass this so I can install 8.2

If you already have 8.1, why not follow the hint from The Register.

look at:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/25160.html

They think 8.1 is better.

it is a Ultra 100 ATA hard drive
its the controller off the motherboard
Maxtor 40 gb I have it set on cylinder limit so it 30gb instead of 40
this is because it is on a old computer

1. Linux Mandrake 6.0 Installation problem

Hi,

I have been trying to finish the installation of Linux to no avail.
I
have already done some installations successfully but this has got me
stumped.
The problem starts when it starts to install linux. It complains that
there
is not enough disk space alloted although 1.5GB is available. I just
ignored
the problem and forced the installation. The installation went well.
However,
when it starts probing for the mouse, an error occured. I then went back
to
the menu and tried to continue on even w/o the mouse. However, everytime
I
select to install/detect other hardware, it just returns to the menu.
Nothing
happens. The problem might be hardware. The following is the specs of my
PC.

AMD K6 200
128 MB SDRAM
Samsung 8.4 GB
  - 4.0GB (Win95)
  - 2.0GB (Linux, native+swap)
  - 2.4GB (Reserved - For Solaris 7)
S3 Virge/DX 4MB
Zoltrix 33.6 Internal voice/fax modem (I will replace later)
24X CDROM by BTC

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe Baduria
