Apanel with volume control only

Post by Gaetan Lo » Thu, 09 Feb 1995 06:32:40

Hi

I would like to know, if there is a PD software where i could
only have a small volume control on the screen. I can't
reduce the screen  appearence of apanel to only the volume control.

I'm aware of the spectra program, but i don't need all the other
stuff. This will reduce the space on the screen.

Thank

How about a little proggie that that sets the output levels from the
command line?  (You can do this with apanel too, but I can never
remember the syntax.)

/*
 * Compile line:  cc -s -o sgivolume -laudio sgivolume.c
 */

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <audio.h>

long pvbuf[4] =
{
    AL_LEFT_SPEAKER_GAIN,  0,
    AL_RIGHT_SPEAKER_GAIN, 0,

Quote:};

main (argc, argv)
    int argc;
    char *argv[];
{
    if (argc < 2)
    {
        ALgetparams (AL_DEFAULT_DEVICE, pvbuf, 4);
        printf ("Volume (L/R): %ld/%ld\n", pvbuf[1], pvbuf[3]);
        exit (0);
    }

    if (argc > 3)
    {
        printf ("usage:\n"
                "%s     - Display current volume\n"
                "%s m   - Set volume of both chanels to m\n"
                "%s m n - Set volume of left chanel to m, right chanel to n\n",
                argv[0], argv[0], argv[0]);
        exit (0);
    }

    if (argc == 2)
    {
        pvbuf[1] = pvbuf[3] = atol (argv[1]);
    }
    else
    {
        pvbuf[1] = atol (argv[1]);
        pvbuf[3] = atol (argv[2]);
    }

    ALsetparams (AL_DEFAULT_DEVICE, pvbuf, 4);

apanel -nodisplay -outlevels #

Indy owners can adjust speaker/headphone levels with the front panel buttons.

No need to write your own program; SGI provides a tiny utility for that
task with the SystemTour (or SpaceTour undr IRIX 4), although it takes
some searching skill to find it. :-)
under IRIX4: /usr/people/tour/bin/volume
under IRIX5: /usr/people/tour/oob/bin/volume

1. default volume on apanel

Before I lose my hearing, does anyone know how to set the default volume
level on apanel.  Every time I log out or restart the computer, the
volume gets reset to 10 ... a little LOUD if you use headphones.  What
did you say?
