tape backup only full restore?

tape backup only full restore?

Post by Steve » Thu, 25 May 2000 04:00:00

I'm using an SGI Octane running 6.5.4.  I have a Quantum DLT drive
attached to it and just did a full backup.  It did have an option to
back up a file or directory also.  Is there a way to restore single
files with the GUI or does it only do complete restores?  Started the
restore process to see and chickened out half way thru as I hadn't
seen any options to select files off the tape.

If not, and it's possible thru tar or something, any pointers to how
to do that would be greatful.  Never used tar except for anything but
grouping a bunch of files together.

And of course the last one, if there are any GUI programs that won't
cost anything, that would be helpful as well.  Thanks.

Proceed further and stop at step 5 of 6
and select 'Selected files' ...
