About "who am i" and "whoami"

Hello,

I have a problem. I run Irix 5.3 on Indigo2 R4400/200.
If somebody of my users logs in the system, the two
commands : "whoami" and "who am i" make different results:
"whoami" works normally and shows the name of the current user,
but "who am i" can shows the login name of somebody another. And because
of that mistake user cannot for example change his NIS password
using yppasswd command. I don't understand what's wrong with
the system, maybe somebody can help me, thanks in advance,

Michael Cordonsky.

Hmm. Is there online documentation for this command? I don't seem to
find it in th online manual pages or InSight.

1. Bogus "idle" value from "w" and "finger"

We have two diskless clients running 4.0.5.
On these machines, when you issue the "w" or "finger"
commands, you get a bogus "idle" value, e.g.

  1:08pm  up 3 days,  3:01,  3 users,  load average: 0.27, 0.15, 0.95

mguttman q0                 12:23pm419days      5         -tcsh

Login    Name                  TTY Idle When       Office
mguttman Mike Guttman          q0   53d Mon 12:23

It might be relevant to know that both machines are running timed, as
        /usr/etc/timed -M -G wbme -P /usr/tmp/.timetrim

Anybody know what causes this and how I can fix it?
Please respond by e-mail.

- Mike
