Secure guest acct & rshd ?

Secure guest acct & rshd ?

Post by Chuck Sembros » Wed, 24 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Probably a dumb question,

How does one secure the guest account and still have rsh commands work?

In Irix 5.3, after I lock the guest account, I can't display system
activity using the System Manager tool.  I get a "permission denied"
message on the console window.

TIA,

Just add <your own machine name> root and <...> <yourname> in guest's .rhosts file. See man
rhosts.

1. guest acct

I have disaabled all the accounts onour 4 indigo2's, except for root,
and the other 2 daily account needed. My question is can I also disable
the guest account ( * in in passwd file ) . I thought I read something
that said the SGI uses the guest account for some of its operation. We
are not connected to the outside, Im practicing the unix trade by doing
this.
