Wacom and Parallel Zip on SGI 540

Wacom and Parallel Zip on SGI 540

Post by Rowan Vantonde » Tue, 29 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I need to connect a USB Wacom to my SGI 540 with Win NT Service Pack 4 but I
can't seem to get it to see the Wacom. Can anyone give me some advice on
what I can do to get it to work?

I'm also trying to get a parallel zip drive to work on the same 540, doesn't
see it either, do I need special drivers or is there a further service pack
update somewhere on the web?

Thanks

Obviously -- there is no USB stack in Windows NT 4.0, only in Windows
95/98 and Windows 2000.

Wacom and Parallel Zip on SGI 540

Wacom does not support the USB version of there tablets on Win NT 4.0
because like Alexis said, there's no USB support under NT 4.  I have a
Wacom Intuos serial version working on my SGI 320.  I'm sure the USB
version would work on Windows 2000.  In regards to making your zip
drive work, go to www.iomega.com and download the latest drivers
(IomegaWare 2.2.1).

Thanks for the tips
Does one have to use Win 2000 Professional or server with SGI 540?

Wacom and Parallel Zip on SGI 540

If you plan to have more than two processors in your SGI 540, then you
do need to install Win 2000 Server.  Win 2000 Professional only
supports up to two processors.

Thanks again Armando,
I got my Zip Drive to work with the latest drivers and the Wacom supplier is
swapping my USB for a serial one

1. More parallel ports for VW 540 ?

The problem is as follows. We need one more parallel port in VW 540 (apart
from the one already on board). We have unsuccessfully tried some local
brand of PCI card (which is based on Alter's chip Max 3000 series). It did
not work in 540, although there were no problems installing it in any
regular NT workstation.

I have to add that both parallel ports are used in a timing dependent
fashion, which means that no solutions like Serial/USB <-> parallel
converters are expected work.

The question is: has anyone ever faced same problem and was successfull in
solving it ? I would be grateful for naming card brand, manufacturer, etc.,
possibly some hints like what problems were involved ?

Best regards,
Kris.
