log a telnet session into a text file?

How to log a telnet session into a text file?

When I use telnet to run database searches on a remote host, I need to turn on
the screen capture before the text is "dumped" to my screen by the remote host.
But I have not found the option of screen capturing.

I have used VMS before and I remember that the telnet command has an option of
logging the session.  Does any Unix telnet have this option, which puts the
Irix in a bad position :)

A friend of mine suggested to use a tee in the command line.  I guess it is ok.
But I'd like to see if there are better/simpler commands.  So I have put the
question in the first line of this note.

Thanks a lot for your attention!  I appreciate any help from you!

Sincerely,

Try the 'script' command before entering telnet. It should work on nearly
all modern versions of Unix, and is available on the net for a number
of older Unices (as a program named 'pty'.)

1. Telnet: is there a way of editing JOT files using telnet on a win95 system.

I am using win95 telnet to access my work station (sgi indy) in school.
I was wondering if there is a way of editing JOT files. Also, I am trying
to ftp from my house to work. When I telnet into my workstation,
I first have to go to the mainstation before I can access my station, but
my ftp only connects to the mainstation. Is there a way or a software that
will connect me to the mainstation then to my workstation.

Thanx, agabas
