GUS PnP & Linux

Post by Bradley D. Harre » Tue, 05 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Has anyone gotten a GUS PnP to work with Linux?  The GUS PnP is supposted
to be hardware compatible with the GUS Classic (as long as you add RAM to
it).  I have recompiled my 2.0.23 Kernel with GUS (not GUS Max) support and
put in the correct IO/DMA/IRQ of the board.  When I load the "sound"
module, I get a message about how GUS MAX support was not compiled in.
When I attempt to play sound, te system doesn't give me an error, but I
don't hear anything.  Any ideas?

I had limited success with USS/lite (the mixer didn't work right, and I
couldn't use the card to its full potential), and there's no way I'm gonna buy
a commercial program (USS) for my Linux/GNU system...luckily there's the Linux
Ultra Sound Project -- check them out at http://www.pf.jcu.cz/~perex/ultra/

The driver is very easy to install and it works GREAT!

Email me if you have any more probs...

There is a driver on sunsite in the package ultra2.0a.tgz (I think).
According to the .lsm file it works with all versions of the gus, gus,
gus max, gus pnp. It was in the Incoming directory when I downloaded it.

Yep. I use the original linux drivers.
All I have to do  is initialise the card with: E:\SYS\ULTRAPNP\IWINIT.EXE in
my autoexec.bat (which then loads loadlin).
(one of the  reasons I didn't like  the alternate gus drivers is  that I'm a
fan of  Xgmod and it  doesn't support those  drivers yet. Also, from  what I
understand, you can also use a  few select apps with those alternate drivers
for now).

It's not perfect, my Gus PnP seems  to generate a lot of events that confuse
Andrew Robinson (author  of Xgmod) because they shouldn't  be generated, but
it kinds of works.
