I installed Slackware after some minor mishaps and all is well now.

I cannot however get my Xfree86 package running.... my video card is
an Orchid Fahrenheit1280+ w/1M ... i think that i may need to link to
a different server, i'm not sure how to use link though...  and once i
get x running, do i need to keep the other servers? i would like to clean
my filesystetm a bit...

thanks.....  i'm just looking for assistance to get X running....

The F1280+ uses S3's 801 chipset. I have it also, and you need to do an
ln -s to link the S3 as the default.  I'm using XFree 1.3- (I need 2.0),
and all works fine (well, more about that later.)

I'm left-handed.  Is there any _easy_ way to remap the mouse buttons?

First of all, to run X with a video card (doesn't matter which card), you
only need ONE server.  In your case, you need the XF86_S3 server.  When
you installed slackware, if you told it to automatically install, and
not prompt you, it installed all of the available servers (eight, I think).
So, make sure that the X server in /usr/X11/bin is a symlink to XF86_S3.

Then, you need to create your Xconfig file.  That goes in the
/usr/X11/lib/X11 directory.  There's a sample one there.  Copy it to Xconfig
and modify it for your own system.  You should read the man pages on the X
server, XF86_S3 server, and also the X11-HOWTO file on getting X going.

1. Slackware Upgrade (Redhat, Slackware, Debian)?

I just purchased the Red Hat Colgate Release and the LSP TRI-Linux
cd-rom set with Slackware, Debian, and Redhat on it.  Couple of
questions.

1.  We have two linux machines that are running kernel 1.2.8 (slackware
2.3) that are doing some things such as (DNS, WWW, Email).  Is is better
to upgrade these to the new slackware withour reinstalling (if it is
possible) or

2.  If that is not possible, what is the easiest way to get to a new
kernal using one of the three.  I don't care which one, unless someone
can give me a good reason to choose.

I guess what I am asking is, what is the easiest way to get from A to B
without major reinstalls and reconfigs.  In case you are wondering, I
bought all three hoping that one would give me a simple upgrade path.
