: I installed Slackware after some minor mishaps and all is well now.
: I cannot however get my Xfree86 package running.... my video card is
: an Orchid Fahrenheit1280+ w/1M ... i think that i may need to link to
: a different server, i'm not sure how to use link though... and once i
: get x running, do i need to keep the other servers? i would like to clean
: my filesystetm a bit...
: thanks..... i'm just looking for assistance to get X running....
First of all, to run X with a video card (doesn't matter which card), you
only need ONE server. In your case, you need the XF86_S3 server. When
you installed slackware, if you told it to automatically install, and
not prompt you, it installed all of the available servers (eight, I think).
So, make sure that the X server in /usr/X11/bin is a symlink to XF86_S3.
Then, you need to create your Xconfig file. That goes in the
/usr/X11/lib/X11 directory. There's a sample one there. Copy it to Xconfig
and modify it for your own system. You should read the man pages on the X
server, XF86_S3 server, and also the X11-HOWTO file on getting X going.
