FTP welcome message?

FTP welcome message?

Post by Pat Trayno » Sat, 03 Jul 1999 04:00:00

When I ftp into my server (slackware 98), after I log in, I get this
lengthy welcome message preceded by "230-" that is NOT of my machine.
I've looked in the FTP home direcory (/home/ftp), and there is no welcome
or README file anywhere to be found.  Where is this file located?

Thanks for any help.

It should be in your ftp directory and is called .message.  Don't forget the
period.

DOH!!

Sometimes there simply isn't a wall big enough and hard enough to bang
my head against.

The .message file was there and was proper for my system.  However,
there was another .message file in MY home directory that I must have
transferred over from some other machine, and this is what was
displaying.  Not too surprising, since I was logging in as myself.

Thanks for ending my pain...

Try "man ftpaccess", and look for description of entry 'message'.
Then checkout your /etc/ftpaccess and look for "message login" entry.
Should reveal the filename.

Possibly it's in /etc/msgs/welcome.msg or some such,
of course for anonymous users it should be in your ftp directory.

: Thanks for any help.
