Sometimes there simply isn't a wall big enough and hard enough to bang
my head against.
The .message file was there and was proper for my system. However,
there was another .message file in MY home directory that I must have
transferred over from some other machine, and this is what was
displaying. Not too surprising, since I was logging in as myself.

Try "man ftpaccess", and look for description of entry 'message'.
Then checkout your /etc/ftpaccess and look for "message login" entry.
Should reveal the filename.
Possibly it's in /etc/msgs/welcome.msg or some such,
of course for anonymous users it should be in your ftp directory.

Howdy...
We are running HPUX 10.2 and have been unable to find out what file
to change or add, to add a welcome message to a user who ftp's in to the
system. Any help would be appreciated,
