GNU cpio 2.4.2 released

Post by John Oleynic » Tue, 23 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Version 2.4.2 of GNU cpio is available for anonymous ftp from [] in the file pub/gnu/cpio-2.4.2.tar.gz.

This version has a fix to properly handle problems such as disk I/O
errors and truncated files.  It also includes a change to cope with
symbolic links on systems whose lstat() call doesn't return the correct
size of a link.  These systems include some versions of Linux (only
when accessing symbolic links over NFS; symbolic links on local
filesystems aren't affected) and some versions of LynxOS.

cpio is a program to manage archives of files.  GNU cpio supports the
features of the System V release 4 cpio, including support for tar
archives.  This package also includes rmt, the remote tape server, and
mt, a tape drive control program.

You can order a copy of GNU cpio on CD-ROM or tape from the Free
Software Foundation.  For ordering info, send mail to
