WAVPLAY help needed

Post by The Renaissance M » Thu, 02 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Briefly:

Has anyone managed to get WAVPLAY to work on linux 1.2.x with the new
sound driver?  The only distribution I can find is set up for Linux
0.99pl14, and the author blithely comments "You will probably need to
change the ioctl calls in recplay.c", but doesn't mention which calls to
change or what to.

I really need to get this working, so that I can write a tool to let
users "page" me when I'm not logged in.........

Look at sunsite in the ...apps/sound directory.  There is a patch.
Apply it.  Rebuild play.  Should work like a champ.  It did for me.

Same problem here.  I just created a simple script called "auplay"
and simply have it do:

cat soundfile.au  /dev/audio

This plays the soundfile.au file perfectly, however it is not a
wave file.

Use SOX, but it *MUST* be configured for Linux:

sox filename.wav -t sbdsp /dev/audio

SOX is smart enough to change the sampling rate fom 8000 (the default)
to whatever the wave file is!
