Netscape - Mozilla Java plug-ins

Post by PhWashingto » Fri, 22 Mar 2002 12:03:19

Occasionally I'll run into a page that requires the
application/x-java-applet;version=1.2
plugin.  This message kicks me to the page
http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/?application/x-java-applet;versio...

but here I get confused because it appears that all the plug-ins that
they are talking about are
for the Microsoft operating system.
I guess I've never dealt with this issue of loading plug-ins while using
Netscape or Mozilla on Linux.
Help on what to do here would be appreciated.

Go to:
http://java.sun.com/
under the download section, find the apropriate java version for you.  I
use 1.4.

As root do
ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.0/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji140.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji140.so
                                     ^^^^^^
Make sure it is ns600, not ns610.  At least I cant get the ns610 version
to work.

Restart mozilla.

In Mozilla type
about:plugins
to verify that your install is correct.

That's good advice - I have had lots of problems with the
automatic download pages. On the other hand, I am running th ns610 plugin
with no problems that I can detect. That's with Galeon built with Mozilla
0.9.9.

That would be the same setup as I have, and the source of my
information.. :)

I havent tried to get the ns610 to work with moz 0.9.9 though.  Maybe
worth a try.

Thanks,
I was able to get it to run on Netscape 6.2.1  I also added the following
line
   to the .bashrc file.

 NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/j2re1.4.0/plugin/i386/ns610
export NPX_PLUGIN_PATH

  Thanks again

1. Netscape helpers and plug-ins, also java help

Is there some way to get Netscape 3.0 for Linux to recognize and play
all midi, wav, au, etc sounds?  I have xplaymidi set up as a helper
app, it works when I click on a midi (but I would like it to work
automatically when a midi is embedded into the html).  For wav and au
I use the helper app as "cat %s>/dev/audio".  That works fine for
local au files, but doesn't sound right on other peoples au files.
Any help is appreciated setting up Netscape to its fullest potential.

One other thing, I have set up my home page with several java apps,
and under NT and 95 Netscape they all work great, under Linux
Netscape, the "body onload" scroll at the bottom of the Netscape
window doesn't work (but the other scrolls work).  Really strange, any
ideas?
