: : I was wondering what exactly the configuration problem was in your case. I too
: : am getting network unreachable when we try to ping our HP9000 from one of
: : our Linux X-boxes...all of which are connected to the lan via the Klever hub.
: : Any info you could provide would be helpful.
: In my case, the sound card (PAS) seemed to be conflicting with the
: ethernet card (Novell NE2000, an ISA card). I compiled the kernel once with
: both sound support and ethernet card support. I kept getting the message
: "Network is unreacable" until someone advised me to recompile the kernel
: without sound support. Everything worked fine after that, but there is no
: sound support :-( Also, you may want to make sure that you do:
: make mrproper; make config; make dep; make clean; make zlilo
: where you may change "make zlilo" to "make zImage" as needed.
: Hope this helps.
Also, if you are on a direct internet link and if your /var/adm/messages
file doesn't show something similar to the following two lines, then the OS
wasn't able to detect your ethernet card.
Jul 12 23:53:31 Jupiter kernel: NE*000 ethercard probe at 0x360: 00 40 33

Jul 12 23:53:31 Jupiter kernel: eth0: NE2000 found at 0x360, using IRQ 12.
The best thing would be to disable the support for all the external
devices except your ethernet card while doing `make config,' and
recompile the kernel. If this doesn't work then reconfigure your
ethernet card for another IRQ by changing the jumpers or by using a
DOS-based program (as in my case) and reboot.
