DTC SCSI controllers (and Linux)

DTC SCSI controllers (and Linux)

Post by Mattias Gerald Hembru » Thu, 14 Apr 1994 11:36:16

I'm about to buy a system, and would like to remain LINUX compatible if
possible.

My local dealer says he really likes the DTC VLB 3270 (I think)
SCSI-2 controller.

I see in the Linux SCSI FAQ that the DTC 3270 is NOT supported. I saw the
3290 mentioned. What's the difference between the two? Is the 3290 VLB as well?

Any other local bus controllers supported?

Thanks,

Mattias

The 3270 is propriety and incompatable with all other SCSI boards.

The 3290 has a propriety mode, and an Adaptec 1540 compatability
mode which works.  Since this could change and we would be unable
to fix the problems, along with the low quality of the DTC boards,
I cannot recommend it.

No, it's EISA.

Try the Buslogic 445S - it's 10M/sec FAST SCSI-II, has active termination,
is Adaptec 1540 Compatable, and generally both fast and robust.  Street
price is about $250.

The Ultrastor 34F boards are supported, but in light of Ultrastor's
recent Chapter 11, I can't recommend one due to the absence of technical
support.

I'll give that a try.. I had no idea Ultrastor went under..

1. Comtrade, DTC EISA/SCSI-II controller for Linux, yes/no?

Is there anyone out there running Linux on a recent Comtrade EISA/VESA system?
I am considering this machine.  Is EISA support for Linux stable?  Will this
system run Linux?

Also, the EISA SCSI-II controller is a DTC 3492.  Will Linux like this, or
should I go with something else?  If so, what?

Comments on Comtrade in general welcome as well.

Thanks much.
