Problem setting ckermit-190 modem speed

Post by Dick Repas » Tue, 19 Nov 1996 04:00:00

I'm unable set the appropriate modem speed for kermit (ckermit-190).
My modem is a US Robotics Sportser.  First, I compiled kermit and "set
modem sportster; set line /dev/modem; set speed 38400; dial #####".
The modem dialed out, and when it connected, kermit gave the error
"unable to change to 14400".  So, I recompiled ckermit-190 with the
compile flag -DBPS_14K, and after recompiling, 14400 is available
as a modem speed when I type "set speed ?".  But, if I type "set
speed 14400", kermit gives the error that the speed is unsupported.
Can anyone tell me what's up?  The modem setup works fine with minicom,
seyon and efax.

System: i386 P133 magitronix motherboard
Modem: US Robotics Sportster on /dev/modem->/dev/cua0 (motherboard)
ckermit-190
gcc-2.7.2
Red Hat 3.0.3 upgraded to kernel 2.0.22.

Thanks,

Dick

: The modem dialed out, and when it connected, kermit gave the error
: "unable to change to 14400".

This is the interface speed, not the modulation speed, and you probably
don't want to change it anyway.  To accomplish that, tell kermit "set
dial speed-matching off"; the error message will go away.  For details,
see the Kermit FAQ at

1. ckermit 190 compile problems w/ 1.[23].x

I'm using a copy of ckermit I's compiled under 1.1.x
unfortunatly somewhere around the late 1.1.x or early 1.2.x/1.3.x kermit
ceased to compile correctly.  I'm using gcc-2.7.0 with libc 5.2.9 and
kernel 1.3.30.  anyone got any tips on getting it to compile?
