Hello,
I upgraded my JDK installation from 1.0.2 to the recently released
1.1.1, using the RPM file from ftp.redhat.com. (I'm running Red Hat
4.1, Linux kernel 2.0.27.) After the installation, Netscape 3.01
suddenly stopped running any Java applets. (I haven't tried Netscape
4.0b3.) It doesn't crash, it doesn't give any error messages; it
just acts like a non-Java-enabled browser.
Jdk-1.0.2 never did this, and when I downgraded back to 1.0.2, Netscape
ran Java applets correctly again. I then upgraded to JDK 1.1.1 using
the tar.gz file from Blackdown, and Netscape runs Java applets correctly
under that, too.
Has anyone noticed this behavior using the jdk-1.1.1v3-1.i386.rpm
installation? And what in the world should Netscape care about what
version of JDK I have installed, just to run an applet? (I mean, it
will run applets without JDK even installed at all, so what's the
problem with the 1.1.1 RPM?)
Thanks,
Dave
