Intel Sound Card

Hello.

I have installed RH 8.0 in a Sony VAIO PCG-V505 laptop.

I managed to configure everything but the sound.

This is my sound card:

Vendor:  Intel Copr.
Model:   82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio
Module:  i810_audio

I installed Alsa drivers and the sound is *parcially* working. I can
hear system beeps and the test sound seems to be ok also but i can't
hear Audio CDs and MP3 files.

I have read a lot of stuff on the Net about this kind of problem but none
of them solved my problem.

The volume is normal (not muted) and i also executed: (as root)

# chmod 666 /dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/sequencer /dev/midi

No results.

Does anyone have successfully configured this video card?
Any hints?

Thanks for your attention.

Helio

Do you have the 810 kernel module compiled and loaded or 810 support
compiled into the kernel?  The modules should be ac97_codec.o and
i810_audio.o IIRC.

Have you edited the alsa alias file (on most Linux distros should be
/etc/modules.d/alsa but YMMV) to add the appropriate aliases, which for an
i810 that is the only audio device in the system should normally be "alias
snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0" and "alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0" and then run
update-modules or modules-update (I forget which of those is deprecated
but either should work).

Have you checked the mixer to make sure that the volume is turned up on
the appropriate channels?

The following error occurred running the modprobe program:

      /lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
      init_module: No such device
      /lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
      insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o
      failed
      /lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
