Very Computer

I had no problem with the man pages from version 2.2.9 of term, nor with
any of the other man pages in my system.  The system is rather old,
linux 1.0.9 from slackware.  

When I run 'man -d termtest' I see a bunch of normal looking stuff, then
the following (line breaks inserted for readability where you see "{+}")
using default preprocessor sequence
found tbl(1) directive
Formatting page, please wait...
not executing command: (cd /usr/local/man ; /usr/bin/gtbl /usr/local/{+}
man/man1/termtest.1 | /usr/bin/groff -Tascii -mandoc | /usr/bin/col {+}

Any advice appreciated..

groff reads /usr/lib/groff/font/devascii/DESC
(a short file with contents for example:
res 240
hor 24

postpro grotty
); the directory devascii should also contain the files R, I, B, BI.
You might specify a different path with GROFF_FONT_PATH. See groff(1).
In case you lost devascii but not devlatin1, try -Tlatin1 - that should
be the default anyway.

Thank you very much.  Apparently I got a little over-zealous in deleting
unwanted files... (my entire /usr/lib/groff directory is gone)...
I will restore it from backups.

Man pages that had previously been formatted could still be viewed.  
The missing files only prevented formatting new man pages.
