SKEY on Linux

Post by Lance Cottre » Wed, 10 May 1995 04:00:00

I have compiled SKEY on my Linux machine and on a Sun. I have a SKEY
client for the Mac. The Mac and Sun versions work, but the Linux version
produces invalid one time keys.

Has anyone managed to get SKEY to work on Linux? If so how, and what
source did you use?

yup, i'm using it right now to log onto a sun.  i had a little bit of trouble
with my first build (i had built it, but then we decided to go w/ MD5), but
a make distclean and a new build worked just great.  I'm using the newest
version off thumper.

the only thing i can think of that might be messed up is what alg. you are
using.  or maybe only md5 works????

good luck
job

I'd recommend logdaemon off of ftp.win.tue.nl:/pub/security.  You have to
define "LOWBYTEFIRST" in md4.c to be true and "LITTLE_ENDIAN" in skeysubr.c

This should most definitely be a FAQ entry somewhere.

Yes. It compiled and gave wrong answers, but after fixing an endian
problem all was fine. Unfortunately I am not near the source right
now, so cannot provide more details.

Check defines in md4.c (LOWBYTEFIRST).

NRL OPIEv2, which is fully interoperable with S/Key(TM) but has a different
name because "S/Key" is a trademark of Bellcore, is currently in beta and
supports LINUX out of the box (along with virtually every other flavour
of UNIX).  A public release could happen within the next month, depending
on our free time, and will be announced to comp.security.unix whenever
the public release happens.

I haven't got skey on my Linux box, but there is a well-known endian problem
for 80x86 unices.  Go grepping for #includes to do with endian-ness, and
edit them.  S/key then worked fine on our 386BSD box.

Many thanks all. I am really paranoid of sniffers. We caught one in the
building a few months back. No idea who installed it.
