init hangs

Hoi,

I'm having a problem.
After a few init q commands to reread the inittab after modifying, (I'm
testing some modems and lines) my machine hangs in the init process. He
doesn't reboot after a ctrl alt del , and when i logoout from an console
there's not a new getty respawning.
When I reboot the machine on the dangerous way by sync and reboot -f
the machine reboots and while booting the kernel it hangs on the init coomand.
The last message is : init version 2.62
When i install a new basic disk set (package a) it wil work, but a lot of
settings i've to adjust because there all overwritten by the installation
process.
By the way , to solve this problem I tried efs2chk /dev/hda3 (my root),from my
emergency-root /dev/hda4,  but that won't work.

Who can helps me ????
