Problem with major slowdowns

Post by roo » Wed, 27 Sep 1995 04:00:00

I've been having a problem lately with my linux box. If i am using the machine
for more then three or four hours at one time, something starts running, i can
hear my hd going crazy, and the the systems lags do incredibly bad i had to re-
boot. at the time of the "system-slowdown", i was running a mud (as a bg process)
zgv, and three shell tty's... it was roughly three or four in the morning, and
i was connected to the net via pppd. can anyone tell me what the hell happened?
i have a vague idea that it was the mud performing routine mantainence, but the
slowdown was so goddamn ridiculous, i dimissed that thought.. i've watched it
maintain itself without those problems... any ideas?

1. Major slowdown with pre-2.0.31.2

Hi all!

I've patched my 2.0.30 system with the pre-2.0.30-2
from ftp.kernel.org. After installing the kernel and all
required modules and rebooting the systems I notice a
major slowdown of the system. Especially the reactions
to user inputs at the command line or in text editors
is _extermly_ slow now! Anyone else sees the same behaviour?

My System: Pentium 100, 32 MB, Adaptec 2940 driver

Regards,

Marc
