What cause this kernel Oops

Post by Bob Jone » Sat, 09 Sep 2000 03:21:45

Whenever I try to use kernel 2.4-test......   I get lockups. It locks solid and I have to power off.
The only thing I can find is this from my /var/log/messages

Any ideas?

Sep  7 14:01:56 phlegmish kernel: Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 38626268
Sep  7 14:01:56 phlegmish kernel:  printing eip:
Sep  7 14:01:56 phlegmish kernel: c01175e3
Sep  7 14:01:56 phlegmish kernel: *pde = 00000000
Sep  7 14:01:56 phlegmish kernel: Oops: 0002
Sep  7 14:01:56 phlegmish kernel: CPU:    0

Thanks

could be possible memory problem I think (download a RAM checker to find
help find out) or from overclocking too much.....are u overclocking?

your hardware setup may prove useful

I'm not overclocking and I checked my mem yesterday. I think it might be some sort of
problem with XFree 4.1 as I had it running for an hour yesterday but it died as
soon as I started X. I think I'm just going to wipe this thing and reinstall 6.2 as
I'm installing a new Vid card anyways.
