ESS 688 16-bit audio chip in notebook, howto use?

My notebook (12meg ram/340 meg/DX2/66) has an ESS 688 16-bit internal audion
chip. How can I use this under Linux? It says it has Soundblaster and ADLIB
emulations, but I don't know if those are hardware or software based...

1. Audiodrive ESS 688 PnP

Does anyone have a driver specifically for this?  Does anyone
have this card working with Linux?  I'm interested in buying one, but I
don't want to spend $60 for nothing.  Thanks for any help.
Responses by email as well please, I tend to miss postings in
large groups, especially just after a weekend's buildup.
