Any bootdisk is a miniature linux system.

Try resque_disk from http://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/recovery/

Of course, you won't be able to do anything interesting, eg PPP, Netscape,
X Windows, Latex, file editing, etc.

info. i found a site that said it was possible to run a linux system
completely from a floppy, although it would be minimal and limited but
they never said how to do it.i want to see what linux is like, before i go
repartition my hard drive. so does anyone know how to setup linux so that
it can be run completely from a floppy?

Linux can be installed on your DOS-partitoned HD without repartioning.
The method uses a file system called UMSDOS, and would need (probably)
under 30 megs for a minimal Linux install. This would be a good way to
try Linux without repartioning and still get a good bit of functionality.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick.  You can run Linux
entirely from floppy yes.  But when we say limited we mean it.  You
will not usefully be able to "see what linux is like".  What you can
get on a floppy is just enough to repartition disks, repair
filesystems or install Linux.

For a preview of Linux you should install Linux in the C:\LINUX
directory of your DOS partition using the UMSDOS install options
available (AFAIK) in most distributiions.

Get a working Linux system.  Train yourself up to completant system
administrator level.  Then get "Yard".
