talk in linux 1.2.13

Post by No Na » Tue, 30 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I am using linux 1.2.13 but cannot configure talk command. It says something
about sockets not found and then just exits. It used to work on 1.2.8 earlier
but I don't know why it doesn't work now.

Any pointers to solve this problem would be appreciated.

talk in linux 1.2.13

Post by Andreas Mu » Tue, 30 Jan 1996 04:00:00

: I am using linux 1.2.13 but cannot configure talk command. It says

I couldn't use talk either, until I was connected to a net. I think I got

worked, but I think not.

The fix was to add a dummy device to my host:

/sbin/ifconfig dummy <hostname>
/sbin/route add <hostname>

(I have put these in my rc.inet1)

Now I can access my host by it's name or IP address even when I'm not
connected to a nameserver. Yes, I had the host in /etc/hosts before too, but
I couldn't do a "telnet <myhost>" when I wasn't connected to the net.

Sorry if I messed up something here, I'm a newbie too, but I hope this
helps...

1. strange problems 1.2.13 --> 2.0.0 --> 1.2.13

Hi,

I have some strange problems with the new kernel source tree...

after the installation of the new sysvinit-2.62 the linux-2.0.0 kernel
complains sh:/bin/bash cannot execute...
with 1.99.7 this works fine
and at least I'm totally unable to recompile the 1.2.13 source tree due
some strange asm errors in main occurring in asm/io.h referenced by
bugs.h  (also within the asm tree). Of course I checked the appropriate
links to for the linux source tree /usr/include/linux
                                                asm

Please help....
