IDE disk contoller and segmentation faults

Post by Michael MN » Thu, 31 Mar 1994 18:40:06

I'm having problems when using gcc experiencing the well known SIGSEGV
when compiling the kernel. I consider this as a matter of the overall
stability of the hardware so I would really like to get rid of it. I
tried to play with some BIOS settings like wait states, AT bus speed,
etc., I got a new and more memory, to no avail.

Is there anybody who successfully eliminated segmentation faults by
replacing the HD VLB controller? Would you contact me please?

My hardware: 486-66 VLB, 16M RAM/16M swap partition, A7VL IDE controller,
IDE HD Maxtor 7345A; currently running Linux v1.0.

1. cdrecord segmentation fault with IDE cd-writer

Hi All

I'm struggling with a IDE cd-writer on a Debian linux (Kernel 2.5.13).
Configured lilo with the hdd=ide-scsi parameter. When trying to burn a
CD, the media seems to be recognized, but when cdrecord actually starts
to write the disk, a segmentation fault occurs. There is also a IDE
DVD-Drive on this system (hdb), but not configured to be used with SCSI.
I can mount and read CDs from the DVD-Drive. Any hints where to look for
the source of the problem?

TIA, Peter
