Dynamic IPs and fixed names

Dynamic IPs and fixed names

Post by Joao Cabra » Tue, 28 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Please forgive me for announcing in this newsgroup but it has
been a while now, the system is a lot more stable and it may
be very well of interest to some people.

The DHIS system allows UNIX hosts who connect through dynamic IP
addresses assigned by ISPs to have an instantaneous fixed FQDN.
In other words, it matches a variable dynamic IP address to a
single host and domain name entry which is updated.

It becomes then possible for such hosts to receive incoming
   telnet/ftp/finger/talk/www/... connections from the outside
world when online. The system also permits to setup as many
email accounts as one wishes under the new registered hostname.
The mail is queued in the mail relay when the host is offline
   and sent afterwords.

You may check for further information at

     http://www.dhis.eu.org/

The service is totally free and runs under most UNIX platforms.

   Once again, sorry and thanks,
   Joao Cabral.
