Solved: Netscape/Mosaic Problem with Term :)

Hello All,

Here is a summary what was done to finally get Netscape/Mosaic
working on my system.

Re-Termify the Netscape version I donwloaded to be compatible with
the term version I currently have.

Added two files that were not included with the distrubutuion of
Netscape that I downloaded : mime.types and mailcap. (Thanks to
the person who posted their full mime.types/mailcap! I can't
remember your name, nor do I have a copy of the original with your
name on it)

Basically those two files made the whole thing click into place
nice and easily. It is now going beautifully, though locking up
once in a blue moon ;) .

Again, thanks to all those that have emailed me trying to help.

I'm trying to get Netscape to work with term.  I hope this is not a really
dumb question, but, do I need some of the networking packages?  DO I
need to recompile my kernel to support a network? And in general, how do
you know which ports to redirect with tredir?

Thanks,
David.

You need TCP/IP for term. I believe that's in the networking packages.

Yes, you need to recompile your kernel to add TCP/IP support (unless your
kernel is already supporting TCP/IP ofcourse)

Take a look at a file called /etc/services. There you find a couple of
columns in which the first three are the most interesting.

The order is something like below:

name of service      port no used     service protocol    comments

There you find each service (ftp, rwho etc) together with its port no
and the protocol it is talking.

Hope this helps,

This is not a dumb question.  In the term-howto there are very simple,
very explicit instructions for setting up netscape with term.  The
instructions omit to answer exactly your question David.

1) Your kernel needs to be compiled with TCP/IP support.
2) I believe you need a little networking stuff like ifconfig and
route.
3) You need to set up the loopback device. Instructions for this are
in the networking howto.

(You never need to use tredir if you do all this other stuff right.)

1. help setup netscape/mosaic+term

Hi, Netters:

Maybe You can help me to figure out
the problem. Now I am suffering to make netscape
/mosaic work with term. I use term-2.3.5 it works fine.
But when I tried to setup netscape with term I
got a lot fo trouble. Yes I have read all nwesgroups
and FAQs, I know how to termify it and setup steps.
I also tried different versions,(netscape 1.1N and ,1.1b3)
But I never get it work fine with term. The term which links
to my remote sun workstaion with httpd-1.3 port to 8088 is
working very good. I also tried to tredir the ports, but
I could not make netscape/mosaic to work.

What I want to know is how you setup netscape/mosaic with
term. Do you need to run httpd (on local or remote) and
how to tredir the ports? Would you mind giving me more
detail how you setup and make it work.

Thanks in advance.
