Slackware 2.3 now available!

No, this isn't a post that's been lost in etherspace for 5 years.
For kicks, and inspired by a couple recent requests for parts of an
old 1.2-based distro, I've grabbed Slackware 2.3 off tape and put it
on my wwwsite: http://skyron.harvard.edu/slacky23/ .  All the disksets
are there, plus bootdisk & "color144" rootdisk images, fips & rawrite.
For completeness I've also put the VGA16 and SVGA versions of the ancient
(but small!) tinyX distribution of X11R3, and old g77 and lynx.  All aout!

enjoy.

Nice, but do I have to click on 300 links to get the whole distribution?
Is it okay to use something like wget to grab all the files automatically?

Cheers,

This is just something I slapped together for kicks, so yeah I just put up the
disksets as originally organised instead of tarring them together for example.
Go ahead and use wget, I don't expect this to be such a high-demand item that
concurrent requests will overload my webserver.  But thanks for asking (-:

1. top available for 2.3?

I would also suggest people check out proctool: it can produce really nice
bar charts and graphs showing CPU load, paging activity etc:

=============

Subject: Announcing new release of Proctool for Solaris
Date: 4 Aug 1994 02:28:03 GMT
Content-Length: 1240

Status: RO

The latest release of Proctool for Solaris 2.3 along with a Solaris 2.4
SPARC and Solaris 2.4 Intel Beta versions is now available on newstop.ebay.

For those of you who do not know what Proctool is, it is a process
management tool which allows you see processes on your system but with
a GUI interface.  Its like 'top' and 'ps' but much much more.  You can
graph processes, CPU usage, paging, etc.  It does what mpstat and mps
did on 4.1.3 (what ever happened to them anyway ? ) Its great for MP
demos, its also useful for performance analysis.  Joe Bob says, check
it out !

The releases include binaries, an user's manual, a README and a
sample init file.
The biggest feature change from earlier releases are:

-Motif based instead of OpenLook/OLIT
-Improved graphs including I/O graphs

You can get the binaries via anonymous ftp from :

        newstop:/sun/MDE/Performance/proctool/proctool_2.X.tar.Z

Where X is either 2.3.6 (latest Solaris 2.3 release) or 2.4<something>.

Its also available for distribution to Sun customers and is available
via anonymous ftp from:

      sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/sun-info/mde/

Hope you like it !!!
