The latest release of Proctool for Solaris 2.3 along with a Solaris 2.4
SPARC and Solaris 2.4 Intel Beta versions is now available on newstop.ebay.
For those of you who do not know what Proctool is, it is a process
management tool which allows you see processes on your system but with
a GUI interface. Its like 'top' and 'ps' but much much more. You can
graph processes, CPU usage, paging, etc. It does what mpstat and mps
did on 4.1.3 (what ever happened to them anyway ? ) Its great for MP
demos, its also useful for performance analysis. Joe Bob says, check
it out !
The releases include binaries, an user's manual, a README and a
sample init file.
The biggest feature change from earlier releases are:
-Motif based instead of OpenLook/OLIT
-Improved graphs including I/O graphs
You can get the binaries via anonymous ftp from :
newstop:/sun/MDE/Performance/proctool/proctool_2.X.tar.Z
Where X is either 2.3.6 (latest Solaris 2.3 release) or 2.4<something>.
Its also available for distribution to Sun customers and is available
via anonymous ftp from:
sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/sun-info/mde/
Hope you like it !!!
