Synchronizing Files

Synchronizing Files

Post by Mark Penkowe » Sat, 30 Jun 2001 03:09:58

I have a question about Synchronizing Files with Linux.  I have a mail
server - the mailboxes are all in /var/spool/mail.  Is there a linux
command that would copy the all of the files to the same directory on
another linux box on my network through ip.

I could accomplish this via an ftp script - but so not want to for a
number of reasons.

Please help.

Thank you.

Mark,

Try rsync

first set the RSYNC_RSH variable to ssh, as in

export RSYNC_RSH=SSH

and then look at man rsync for switches like rsync -avz ...

1. Synchronize Files Between Two Linux Machines

Anyone know of software which will synchronize directories between two
Linux machines on a network or across the internet?  How about Windows
machines or Linux to Windows??

I need to have users make changes at either machine and have the changes
propogate to the other machine so that in time both machines will become
identical (at least the directories specified).

Thanks in advance.  Please email me your response.
