Viewing JPEGS BMPS GIFS etc etc on the Dos Partition

Post by Alan Fri » Wed, 09 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I've just successfully mounted my dos partition and can now see all the files on my Linux partition.
I am also able to view most of them with the editor.

However when I try to view the image files in my subject heading, I get error messages that components
are missing and therefore the file can not be viewed.

Is there something missing in Linux?

I am using Red Hat 5.1 and viewed the files with Gimp and  Xpaint.

While I am on the subject does anyone know how to get ImageMagick to operate.
According to glint it is installed but I can't find the sucker anywhere and searches
come out negative.

Thanx in advance

Alan

I get a few but here is a sample of two:

1) Quantization Table 0X01 was not defined

2) Invalid JPEG file structure, SOS before SOF

BTW what is ldd and how do I use it?

Thanx in advance for your help

More to the pouint, have you mounted the partition - and do you have MSDOS
or VFAT support in the kernel?

Tried xv?

Try:

display <image>

or:

man ImageMagick (note capitalisation)

 rpm -qil ImageMagick-4.0.5-4 |grep bin

shows that you have binaries like animate, combine,...
Type display.

rpm -qil ImageMagick-4.0.5-4 |grep man

shows you that   man display  will produce some documentation.
Not to mention /usr/doc/ImageMagick-4.0.5/...

Hope this helps.

1. Viewing Graphics Files (JPEG, TIFF, GIF, etc) on 5.0.4

We are running 5.0.4 and would like to be able to scan a picture in
Win95, VisionFS it to the server, and then print it out in our
software.  To do this we need a unix based graphics file viewer /
printer.  This is NOT going to be done in an X-Windows enviroment.  Only
in the character based UNIX.  And I cannot find a program that will
run.  Any ideas on how to do it, and or any programs that you know of?

Please reply via email, if possible

Thanks
