Beeper Software for Linux?

Beeper Software for Linux?

Post by Bob Smithe » Wed, 25 Mar 1998 04:00:00

I have recently become aware of a program called WinBeep which, as I
understand it, manages telephone calls and text messaging to
alphanumeric beepers.

Is there any beeper software of any kind for Linux?

Thanks,

I'd be interested in such a program as well.  I'm trying to setup my
Linux box to monitor various machines.  If they stop responding, I'd
like Linux to be able to page my alphanumeric beeper with a message like
"Server BLARGH not responding to ping."

Thanks.

There's one called qpage foating around somewhere. Debian has it as a
package.

I believe that Big Brother already does all that and more.  Check it out:

There is a command line tool that I've been using for a while now called
"Danpage" Wrapped it into a script, and made it a login shell (no
passwd) for a spare terminal. Works great.

1. TAP protocol alpha beeper software

Does anyone have any info on the TAP protocol for alpha-numeric
beepers?  Does software, or at least the spec, exist anywhere on
the net?  Motorola's web site just points me to Compuserve for
TAP information.

Thank's,
