I am pressed to communicate the Linux decision before the technology brief
because of information released by QNX in the last few days. This
information had not been reviewed or approved for release by Amiga.

I doubt they will make inroads with their OS on the new Amiga, but it would be
nice to see what they could offer as (yet) another alternative OS for Intel
hardware.

There is linux M68K. Most of the gnu tools have also been ported to
AmigaDos.

I Guess the AMIGA press release is the most authoritative on the plansQuote:> >Where did you see this announcement? Man, I loved my Amiga - used an

If AmigaInc is using the Linux kernel. Does that mean there modified kernel
will also be under the GPL?
If so, what would they be selling? A new windows manager or support like
RedHat?

(This is not an unreasonable idea, after all, they previously were
workin with QNX, and thus working with a pretty minimal embedded OS.)
It would be to their benefit to *allow* one to drop Linux libraries and
programs on top, as that would allow those that wish to use Linux
software on this system to do so.
XFree86 may be one of the things they were interested in having access
to; it allows them to provide support for a "bunch" of graphics cards
without having to recode support from scratch.
(Alternatively, if they're planning to sell their own hardware, their
plans might look more like "we'll write a framebuffer manager for this
one chipset," thus mandating a specific set of hardware, as well as that
a rewrite would be needed in a year when a new chipset comes out...)
