Hi folks:

I was wondering whether anyone has tried out/currently using the new
Western Digital 1.62GB EIDE HD that gateway2k is selling? I am planning
on getting one, the price is right ~$520, just wanted to make sure there
are no problems using it. Thanks a bunch.

Well, my $0.02 worth (potentially low-value opinion in this context)
is that you're better off getting a SCSI drive if you're anywhere over or
about a gig. I've seen lots of people on the net who claim to have had no
problems, but I've never, *ever*, seen anyone I know with a real system
that has a >1GB EIDE drive in it that works right, and I've seen plenty of
cases where they are between working mostly-wrong and almost-right. They're
just bad news. You save $$, but you pay for it elsewhere...

I would recommend getting a 1.28Gb size instead.  I have seen the 1.28
for $319 (.25 a meg) while the price you quote is about .32 a meg.

One comment that I can make is that it's an EXCELLENT price.  Normally, the
drive runs in the $600-$700 price range.  I've not tried it, but based on
it's stats, it's an excellent drive too...  LaTeR.
