LILO

Post by Leung Leu » Sun, 23 Jun 1996 04:00:00

When I run the "liloconfig" to config the lilo, I can have the option to
install the lilo to the MBR or the superblock of the linux partition.
I cannot find any hints in the /etc/lilo.conf file to indicate where the
lilo should be installed.

How to know whether the lilo is installed to MBR or the superblock of linux
partition next time I run the /sbin/lilo again ?

Thanks,

LL

Look for the 'boot =' option.  If this specifies /dev/fd0, it will be
installed on a floppy.  /dev/hda indicates the MBR, and /dev/hda4
says on the boot record of partition 4.  If partition 4 is your linux
partition, that would be in the superblock of the linux partition.

Actually, IMHO there's no flag. But be sure, Liloconf will do the stuff properly,
especially with Lilo v19. Don't worry next use /sbin/lilo will do the same
install with the new /vmlinuz kernel.
What's in /etc/lilo.conf is a description of the existence of your partition
not where they're stored physically (blocks, etc).

1. LILO--LILO--LILO

here is my problem----i have 2 physical hard disks --the primary master
has NT
and the primary slave has LINUX(red hat )--i have LILO boot which has 2
images---x(for linux) and nt.

i wanted to upgrade my linux6.0 to 6.1 and so i booted from the cd-rom ---
but it
would give an error saying that "ext2 file system not found" and would
hang.

so---i disconnected my primary master(NT) hdisk and proceeded with the
installation which was successful.

now , at LILO boot when i give X IT SAYS "LOADING X" and stops....it seems-
the LILO is not able to relate the X image to the primary slave.

can you help me to set the LILO properly.....i will be very thankful.
