Why don't you just use stunnel ( http://www.stunnel.org/ ), then you can
keep using KNode?

Please stop top-posting.

You can compile slrn with SSL support:

http://slrn.sourceforge.net/docs/README.SSL

Exactly what you and numerous others, new to this ng are doing.

You are putting your text above the quoted text.

Here are some links explaining why one shouldn't do this.

Why NOT top post?

Guess we had a bi-weekly posted "Posting FAQ" explaining something
like this, looks like none would read it.;(

No need to switch newsreaders!

Use the OpenSSL's 'openssl s_client' command to wrap the SSL
session to your school's news server and make it look like a regular
(ie.  plaintext, unencrypted) session.  Remember to tell KNode to
connect to localhost:4433 instead of news_server.your.school:xxx

Getting the default 404 page of some M$-IIE, it looks like
it needs to be removed completely. Thx.

The redirect for the original URL you posted is broken and goes
to an IIS 404 page (which Microsoft forces every single 404 page
to look like in IE, ugh); The above URL, however works (I just
double-checked it).

Take care,

I really wish people on this newsgroup would not flame newbies like
this.

If you want to flame people, go to Slashdot.  Only post here if you
want to help people or need help.

To the original poster: As a long-time Linux user, I apologize for the
actions of the person who flamed you in this manner.  What he did was
not appropriate and does not reflect the general Linux crowd.

1. SSL support for non-SSL web server

I have a proprietary web server that is tightly integrated with out
applications and database. It works well. But it does not support SSL.
Is there anyway I can add a proxy server or other software/hardware
setup to allow the browser to have an SSL link to the 'proxy' and the
proxy allow unencrypted links to the web server? I'm not a networking
tech jock, but I do need a solution. I been to many 'firewall'
providers web sites but all of them say they understand my need, but
have no options for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
