Does anyone know how to connect to compuserve?
The M$ connection script (cis.scp) sets the serial line to 7 bits data
and even parity during the log process (restoring it after).

This is for a friend of mine to who I said Linux was the best way to
connect to the Internet. I wouldn't disappoint him, leaving him in the
M$ tentacles...

Thanks

next to ppp compuserve uses a proprietary protocoll. That means you can use
a tcp/ip connection with compuserve, but you will not be able to directly
acces internal compuserve information.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how (or if) it's possible to change the parity
during login, which makes it tricky. However if you're using a chat
script to log in, you can do it by using just the letters that don't have
a parity bit set on them. Try logging on with a communications program
using 8-bit no parity; you'll find it works but half the letters that are
sent from the logon host to the local machine are kinda funny-lookin...
Base your chat script on the ones that are plain ASCII. Or you could
probably just copy the parity-modified characters straight into your chat
script, and it ought to work.

Anyway, I've got a chat script for compuserve that works (at least in the
US), I can send it to you tomorrow if you haven't gotten it working by
then. (I don't have access to the computer it's on right now.)

I have a CompuServe login script at
http://www.xnet.com/~efflandt/linux/

It is based on the Slackware ppp-on and ppp-on-dialer.  Your friend
might also try the Unix forum file libraries, which is where I
gathered information on how to do this.

1. Sending mail using CompuServe as ISP to other CompuServe addresses

I have written a short script in Perl that produces a individualised
email, which is then sent off using sendmail through my ISP Compuserve
over a PPP link.  The system works ok, until the address is another
CompServe member.  The system sends all such messages over the local
network, with the result that they land up in my dead.letter box.

Obviously there is a configuration fault somewhere, but where?

Does anyone know where the Sendmail FAQs can be obtained?

Does anyone one know of a good source of info about MS/Windows SMTP
clients - like Agent - Ms Mail.  These work ok for sending to
CompuServe members.  What is the magic ingredients

TIA
