Very Computer

sndconfig runs fine. It correctly gets the soundblaster to work.
However, I cannot play cd's with xplaycd in RH 5.0 even though it seems
to read the tracks.

When I reinstalled 4.2 and recompiled the kernel, it worked.
When I recompile the kernel for 5.0, I don't get the same options.

Any ideas?
I wish there was someway to override some of the stuff in 5.0.
I don't think it is 5.0 problem, but a kernel 2.0.32 problem.

I think I have to get it to use the Windows Sound System to get
xplaycd to work right.
But I don't know how with kernel 2.0.32.

Mine works fine, Sound Blaster 32 xplaycd. Easiest thing I installed on
Redhat5.0. Using the sndconfig I kept selecting different io=0x999 and
interupts until I had voice at the end. Some times setting the dma to 0 will
help.

Have you chmod'd the symbolic link /dev/cdrom to the appropriate setting?
I know that sounds incredibly obvious, but if you'd done it once in 4.1
and then installed RH5 you may find that your /dev entries have changed
somewhat. I can't remeber what the setting is, but if you run xplaycd from
an xterm it'll let you know (and print a nice polite message thanking you
when you've made the change!)

Also, you might want to try and play some samples -- it is possible that
although you have maanged to get the soundcard working it isn't
initialised during bootup....
