Yeah, I get that too but aren't beta versions *supposed* to be buggy?
That's why they're called "beta"...

I wonder if I'm the only one with serious problems with this version?
can't map /dev/zero
can't load libgdbm.so.2 (it is there, but after starting Netscape I can't
start anything else anymore.)

I can't find anything about this version, with 2.01b everyone was talking
about the DNS problem.

I just downloaded 1.12 again, and that one works fine. 2.01b worked also
without any problems. (I use CERN HTTPD_3.0 as a proxy server and I started
netscape trough the de*)..

But I deleted the 2.01b version. So I can't go back to that version.
Does someone know if it is still somewhere? Can I download it from
anywhere??

TNX for any help.

Walter

I noticed this problem as well, by discovering that my mail was being lost.
Ugh.

If you use sendmail and 'mailq' (aka 'sendmail -bp') barfs when netscape 2.0b2
is running, you're in danger of losing outbound mail (at least).  In
particular, if you send your mail using emacs with the default setting of
'mail-interactive', the call to sendmail is backgrounded and you never get to
hear that it died and that your mail was lost.

The real problem seems to be a kernel bug (I was running 1.2.8).  I've
upgraded to 1.3.37 and the problem is gone.

Yeah, I would call it buggy.  It ran fine the first time after
installation, but now crashes after running only for a few
minutes.  I ended up reinstalling my old version.

I get that too.

Not only that, but the can't map, etc., crud winds up on
my console.  And other programs, e.g., exmh, sendmail, begin
doing the same thing.  Until netscape is quit.  Quite a
remarkable bug, in my opinion.

I'm back to Mosaic.  Less remarkable in every respect.

Perhaps something is set up wrong on your computer.  I am finding
2.0beta2 not only less buggy (significantly) than 2.0beta1, but faster
as well, and probably more stable than 1.1n

I'm using it in linux (1.2.1, a.out, Xfree-3.1.1) and AIX-3.2.5.  No
serious problems except a disappearing editing cursor I-bar, once I got
it set up correctly.  I needed to re-direct error messages resulting
from my config (.Xdefaults setting KeyboardFocusPolicy to POINTER) to
stderr, and it works fine, including the KeyboardFocusPolicy.

I concur.  This version of Netscape (2.0b2) is running really
well for me.  It is MUCH faster and a lot more stable.  The only problem
I seem to be having with it now is the mail.  I set my pop server
location.  I set my e-mail, reply and such addresses, but it will not
allow me to choose the pop server to popo my mail.  Kinda sucks, but the
browser more than makes up for it.  Besides, I've been using HotJava a
lot more lately anyways :-)

1. Customizing Netscape Communicator4.02b ???

I just got ahold of Netscape Communicator 4.02b for my Linux based
486 machine. I am using 1024x768 resolution on my monitor and when using
Netscape the font sizes in the menus and the status bar are quite small.
Is there a way to set the font size for the menus other than using the
--edit-preferences settings, which will not change the menu font sizes.
Can this be done and if so, How?

    Thanks....
