status of Adaptec 6360?

status of Adaptec 6360?

I'm about to buy the Zeos Pentara as a Linux mail server.  The
system will come with either an IDE or a SCSI hard drive using
Adaptec 6360 SCSI controller chip.  I prefer the latter (SCSI)
configuration.  However, As I read SCSI-HOWTO,  and caught the
following sentence

"IMPORTANT : VLB and motherboard 6360 implementations should be
treated as unsupported, since there appears to be a timing
  problem in these systems."

I wonder there will be any support for the 6360 chip in the near
future.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The 6360 _should_ work with the Linux Adaptec 1520 driver.  In practice,
however, this is not the case and 6360 VLB implementation have proved
quite unstable.

Juergen and others have done a fair amount to improve this situation
since that revision of the SCSI-HOWTO was written, and it now works for
_more_ people, but many people still have reliability problems, and
it isn't known when these will be worked out since if some one knew
where all of them were, they would have fixed the problems :-)
