MySQL installation problems (address already in use)

Post by J H Ki » Fri, 30 May 1997 04:00:00

hi,

i've downloaded mysql 3.20.18 binaries (mysql-3.20.18-gamma-pc-linux-
gnu-i586.tgz) and cannot start the server. when i run safe_mysqld,
it gives out the following

BASEDIR= /tmp2/archives/mysql-3.20.18-gamma-pc-linux-gnu-i586
Starting mysqld demon with databases from
/tmp2/archives/mysql-3.20.18-gamma-pc-linux-gnu-i586/data
mysqld demon ended

and the log file looks like

mysqld started on Thu May 29 16:45:47 KST 1997

/tmp2/archives/mysql-3.20.18-gamma-pc-linux-gnu-i586/bin/mysqld: Fatal
error: Can't find messagefile
'/usr/local/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys'

mysqld ended on Thu May 29 16:45:48 KST 1997

so i run mysqld with the -L option and i get the following error
message.

Can't start server : UNIX Bind : Address already in use

Does anyone have any idea as to what is wrong? please, help. i'm
one step shy of going insane.

Thanks,
Kim
