1. DIP, connects but hangs at login
I'm having a consistent problem with DIP.
The fax modem card is on com3 with irq5 and address 0x03e8.
That is, setserial /dev/cua2 0x03e8 5
DIP successfully sets the modem, dials, and connects with the
foreign modem, but the chat script fails. I know exactly what the
other system is sending because I can connect using NetManage's
Chameleon/NFS (under Windows 3.1) product and that product's
debugging log shows the chat system dialog as it proceeds.
What bothers me most about debugging with DIP is I can't
see what is being negotiated between the two systems. The only
debugging I manage to get DIP to give me is the return status
of the previous command (using the -v option). In other words,
even when using dip -tv, and sending AT to the modem, I do not
see the OK come back. In fact, I never see any responses from
the modem (including the remote system).
If there is a way to see the ongoing chat script, I would appreciate
hearing about it. I have looked in the following areas:
1. the dip(1) man page
2. the networking howto
3. Linux Installation and Getting Started
4. following the linux news groups
If there is more information in this area, I would like to know where
to find it.
Please reply directly to my email address.
Thanks.
