Encoding Images and audio to MPEG using linux app?

Post by mas.. » Sat, 28 Oct 2000 20:20:51

I have a series of JPG images and an audio track which I have set up to
display withing xanim with some success.  I would like to encode the
images to an mpeg or mov file which I could share with my NON-linux
friends.  (actually, parents of graduates whos images are the
"graduation presentation")

I have resorted to focusing a video camera on an LCD screen with some
minor success, but would like to do better.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks

Some links that may be of use:

http://www.gromada.com/index.html
http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/MSSG/

These are just the links in my collection that have mpeg/Mpeg
in either the discription or the URL.  You may also want to
check the PovRay links page which is searchable, and has many
animation/graphic resource links, the site is at:

http://www.povray.org/LINKS/  I think.

1. What X-based apps exist for Solaris to encode MP3 audio files?

Hi,

I'm curious to find out what applications exist for Solaris (either
commercial, shareware or freeware - all will be considered) which can
encode MP3 audio files?

I'm aware of one which is available as shareware, and that's 'bladeenc',
which I downloaded today, but it appears to require input from a file in
.wav or .au format, and I'm looking preferably for applications which can
take audio data directly from the audio device on my Sparc 20 (DBRI-based
two-channel 16 bit) and encode straight into MP3 format without any middle
steps requiring halfway-conversion to/from an alternate audio format.

Why am I after something like this? Well, as an avid fan of alternative
electronic music (techno, trance, etc. - go see my web page at
"http://lios.apana.org.au/~navar if you want to know more) which is
generally only available on vinyl records (yes - who said vinyl was
dead!), and I want to convert as much of my record collection as possible
into MP3 format so I can burn CD's, etc. and have a digital archive of the
more important tracks of music.

I'm going to try sampling some audio from my mixer with audiotool, or
maybe with audiorecord, and then feed the output file from audiotool into
bladeenc to see what sort of result I get.

What other software tools can do MP3 encoding under Solaris on a Sparc
machine?

Regards,

Craig.
