I finally gave up and purchased OSS. Works ok, but, for some reason, games
that used to play with sound (/dev/dsp, when I had an old SB16 ISA) don't
play with sound anymore. BUT, they don't core telling me they can't open
/dev/dsp either. I don't know what is up with that. Using OSS's "play'
executable to play .wav files to /dev/dsp works fine, so it's not the
device. Who knows, I can play CD's, that's all I really care about.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why games using /dev/dsp wouldn't
play with sound using OSS? Ever encountered that problem? I don't expect
many replies...
