My mouse pointer jumps...

My mouse pointer jumps...

Post by David Priet » Fri, 23 Aug 1996 04:00:00

    Hi...

Why does my mouse pointer jumps when the HD is working? Sometimes,
if I move the mouse while the HD is read/writing, it jumps about 100
pixels left :-???

1. Why does my mouse pointer jump about?

I have a logitech pilot mouse serial version.

Using gpm or X my mouse pointer jumps about erratically, if you move the mouse it behaves ok for
a few seconds and then takes a huge jump. It works fine under DOS and MS Windows.

I have a P100 (Triton Chipset motherboard) with 2 16550A UARTs.

If I use setserial and tell my system that the UART is a 16450 the mouse behaves fine.

Now I'm trying to use a modem on the other port - I have the same problem - junk characters keep
being transmitted and recieved until I set the UART to be a 16450.

I would like to know why this is happening? And how to fix it so I can use the 16550A as a 16550A, at
least for the modem.

Thanks

Ian
