hdparm error. . .

Post by Jiann-Ming » Mon, 17 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I get the following error when I try to run hdparm with the -t option.

bash# hdparm -t /dev/sda
could not allocate sharedmem buf: Function not implemented

I also get this error with default options.

bash# hdparm /dev/sda
 BLKRAGET failed: Invalid argument
 BLKROGET failed: Invalid argument
 geometry     = 813/6/34, sectors = 165850, start = 0

Anybody know what the two means?  What do I need to do to make it
work properly?

Thanks for any help.

I thought it was only written for (E-)IDE systems. Never tried it on
SCSI though.

1. hdparm error message

Hello,
i have installed a new hard disk on my Debian woody system.
If i called 'hdparm -v /dev/hda' i get this message:

/dev/hda:
  multcount    =  0 (off)
  I/O support  =  1 (32-bit)
  unmaskirq    =  0 (off)
  using_dma    =  1 (on)
  keepsettings =  1 (on)
  nowerr       =  0 (off)
  readonly     =  0 (off)
  readahead    =  8 (on)
  geometry     = 14596/255/63, sectors = 234493056, start = 0
  HDIO_GET_BUSSTATE failed: Input/output error

What could be wrong with the busstate? Is this a serious problem and
should i worry about my new hard disk?

Thanks a lot.
