Hi there,
Can you tell me how can I view JPEGs and GIFs in Linux. I noticed I have
a file called jpeg, but it is not executable.

Look for the xview package. I have an RPM installed that is
xv-3.10a-5. It probably came from the contrib section.

You mean the "xv" package (you're right about the RPM). I don't mean to
pick nits here, but it's entirely possible to look for, find, and install
the XView package (toolkit) and not have it do what Wael wants to do. IIRC
XView is an Open Look-based toolkit.

start X
then use
xv
or
gimp
or
ImageMagick
or
...

xv is what you need and you probably have it already installed

Try xv, you have it probably installed.

Is there a JPEG/GIF viewer that runs on the Console (that uses VGALib or
summat?) - I don't like using X except when *absolutely* necessary (the
only times my comp has ever 'crashed' is when I use X)

Look for zgv. It uses SVGAlib.

There are several. I've had some trouble getting them compiled, though...
Currently, I'm using GRAV, which is pretty nice. (It's not quite in all
respects up to the level of QPV, my DOS viewer, but better in some ways.)
